Welcome to the Lay Servant Ministries Home Page for the Alabama/West Florida Conference UMC. I am Heather Howell, the Director of Lay Servant Ministries, and I am excited about revitalizing the lay servant ministry in our conference. “Laity” means ordinary people, not ordained by the church, who are called by God to serve Him through various outlets in their lives. These can be in the local church or the wider community. From the early days of John Wesley’s ministry, lay servants have been a vital part of bringing the Good News of Christ to all the world. As Christians, we are called to fulfill a specific role that God has created just for us. Are you ready to take the next step in fulfilling God’s purpose for your life? I hope the answer is yes! I am a product of lay servant ministries, and the support and training I have received from the lay servant ministry program have proved invaluable to me in helping me discover and fulfill God’s call on my life. But I also understand that it can be a confusing process, and I am here to help answer any questions you may have about the various roles in the lay ministry or about how to discover who God created you to be.
