Over 600 United Methodist Churches to Save 100,000 Lives

The Alabama-West Florida (AWF) Conference of the United Methodist Church is excited to join other annual conferences within the United Methodist Church connection and announce the 2014 Imagine No Malaria campaign to save lives. Imagine No Malaria is an effort of The United Methodist Church to eliminate malaria deaths in Africa by 2015. Achieving this goal will require a comprehensive approach to fighting this disease, on a larger scale than all previous efforts.

The AWF conference has a goal of saving 100,000 lives, or raising over one million dollars. It only takes $10 to save one life through Imagine No Malaria. To achieve this goal, the eight districts of the conference have been charged with saving a certain number of lives, all totaling 100,000. The districts are also holding unique events and fundraisers to challenge their local churches and communities.

Bishop Paul Leeland, Resident Bishop of the AWF Conference, stated, “We humbly enter into this campaign where the simple goal is to save a life. It takes so little to make such a significant impact. Together, we can combine our efforts to stop this deadly killer.”

The deadline for this campaign is the Opening Worship service of 2014 Annual Conference session, June 1, held in Montgomery, AL at Frazer Memorial United Methodist Church.

Imagine No Malaria is an extraordinary effort of the people of The United Methodist Church, putting faith into action to end preventable deaths by malaria in Africa, especially the death of a child or a mother. Please join us and help our conference meet this goal. We welcome support from the public and other organizations. Direct donations may be made by going to www.awfumc.org/malaria.
