Rev. Robert Thurmon Bennett was born September 27, 1922 to Frank and Augusta Bennett. He was the youngest of eight children raised on a farm in Davie, FL. He married Gladys Mae Snediker on October 23, 1944. He lived to see Gladys welcomed to our Lord's house six years ago. Together they had 3 children, Richard, Fran and Kathy. Brother Bob's legacy is also represented by his four grandchildren, Chris, Kristi, Paul and Joy, as well as eight great grandchildren, Caitlyn, Sebastian, Kayla, Caleb, Leia, Joshua, Mia and Kristian, all whom he was blessed to know, and three whom he personally baptized. The last was baptized from his bedside just a month ago.
Early in his life he served the Navy as well as a full career with Southern Bell. Brother Bob was called to serve the Lord in 1978. He "retired" many times (as a Minister never truly retires), serving his last church (Bascom UMC) in 2012 to 2013. Rev. Bennett was welcomed to our Lord's house and reunited with his wife on Friday evening, December 26, 2014 at the age of 92.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 17, 2015 in the Marianna Chapel, 3960 Lafayette St, Marianna, FL 10:30 - 12 noon.
Funeral services will be held at Bascom United Methodist Church, 4942 Basswood Rd, Bascom, FL 32423, on the same day at 1 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bascom United Methodist Church.
