Blue Lake United Methodist Assembly

Blue Lake United Methodist Camp (Andalusia, AL)

In the late 1940s, Dr. S. M. Baker had a dream of creating a camp and conference center while fishing on at Blue Lake. In a few short years the Alabama-West Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church made the first steps in making this dream a reality and in 1951 the first camps were held on the grounds of Blue Lake. These early campers slept in tents and cooked their food in an outdoor kitchen. One year later, in 1952, the first building was built at Blue Lake and with the following year seeing the addition of the first cabins, creating Pinewood, the first permanent campsite at Blue Lake that could sleep 132 people.

Today, Blue Lake has grown and expanded into a total of three separate camp sites nestled around the 65 acre Blue Lake including, Pinewood, Dogwood, and Oakwood. Our 300 acre facility can now sleep over 500 people at one time and each camp site has its own gymnasium, dining facility, and various other meeting spaces. For nearly sixty years, Blue Lake has been a center for a variety of camps, conferences, retreats, and events and has been the vessel in which a countless number of lives have been changed and transformed in a variety of ways. Blue Lake continues to be a vital part of the ministry of the Alabama-West Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church, yet our doors are open to all people. We believe that our facility is an important treasurethat should be shared with everyone.

Blue Lake has undergone many changes in the past few years including, new and renovated facilities, new programs, and new staff. Many of these changes are directly related to our Capital Campaign to raise needed funds to improve all aspects of this ministry. This process of growing has led our board and staff, in coordination with our various Conference leaders, to lay out a unified vision of what we believe to be the future of Blue Lake. This vision is now reflected in our newly adopted mission and core values.
