Grant Descriptions
Annual Conference CDP Cohort Program (Deadline: January 7, 2022)
The Community Developers Program (CDP) is a network of racial-ethnic congregations and communities throughout the United States committed to advancing the church’s capacity to be in mission in partnership with the communities where they are located. Work includes advocacy, economic development, youth organizing, addressing local needs, creating an awareness of national and international causes and effects.
The 2022 Annual Conference CDP Cohort Program will work directly with 5 annual conferences (1 conference per jurisdiction) in a cohort model. The cohort will begin February 2022. Annual conferences accepted into the CDP Clusters Cohort program will participate in monthly meetings and coaching sessions. Throughout the cohort, group will develop an implementation plan and will receive a $20,000 grant at the conclusion of the training sessions.
The grant can be used to assist clusters in implementing possible programming in the local community. Grant funds can be used for, but not limited to, the following activities:
- Community mapping
- Congregation and community engagement
- Community assessment
- Creating and expanding community partnerships
- Recruiting volunteers to work towards making systemic changes
- Asset based community development
- Advocacy and social justice.
Local Church Community Developers Program Seed Grants (Deadline: December 1, 2021; July 1, 2022)
The Community Developers Program (CDP) is a network of racial-ethnic congregations and communities throughout the United States committed to advancing the church’s capacity to be in mission in partnership with the communities where they are located. Work includes advocacy, economic development, youth organizing, addressing local needs, creating an awareness of national and international causes and effects.
Seed grants ($10,000) are awarded to local racial-ethnic congregations to discern the willingness and ability to become a Community Developers Program site. Seed grants can be used for the following, but not limited to:
- Community mapping
- Congregation and community engagement
- Community assessment
- Creating and expanding community partnerships
- Recruiting volunteers to work towards making systemic changes
- Asset based community development
- Advocacy and social justice.
Racial-Ethnic Local Church Grant (Deadline: March 4, 2022)
Racial/Ethnic Local Church Grants are provided to assist local congregations with projects and programs focusing on Leadership Development, Church Growth and Development, Ministry with the Poor, and Health Ministries. Racial/Ethnic Local Church grant recipients can receive up to $10,000 for programmatic grants, and up to $10,000 for one-year salary support.
Multiethnic Ministries Grants (Deadline: March 4, 2022)
Multiethnic Ministries Grants up to $10,000 are provided to assist annual conferences with programs focusing on racial/ethnic leadership development and racial/ethnic church growth and development.
Asian American Language Ministry Grants (Accepted Monthly)
Grants are awarded to Asian American churches or groups in the United Methodist Church. Grant applications should focus on one of the four areas: leadership development, church growth and revitalization, language resources, and ministry to the poor.
Native American Ministry Grants (Accepted Monthly)
Native American Ministry Grants assist Native American local congregations and communities for outreach and community ministries, revitalization and discipleship formation, salary supplement, and building repairs and expansions.
Pacific Islander Ministry Plan Grants (Accepted Monthly)
The Pacific Islander Ministry Plan grants resource and strengthen the growth and development of Pacific Island churches and ministries within the US. Grants are awarded for congregational development, leadership development, and language resources.
United Methodist Voluntary Service (Accepted Monthly)
The United Methodist Voluntary Service (UMVS) serves as a resource to volunteer-based groups and programs that challenge unjust political, social, and economic systems which threaten the livelihoods of people of low socioeconomic status, as well as racial/ethnic communities. Grants can be used for short-term (less than 1 year) community-based outreach programs and events. The UMVS provides financial resources of up to $10,000 per congregation, annual conference, or mission partner.
