Conference Awarded UMCOR grants for Hurricane Sally

December 15, 2020
(Rev. Chris Ackerman) - I am excited to share with you that we have received two grants from UMCOR to assist us in our Hurricane Sally recovery.

The first grant in the amount of $370,000 will be used for direct funding. It is our goal to use this funding to assist at least 37 families in their recovery from Hurricane Sally. Direct funding can look like many things: repairing a roof, repairing flood damage, replacing necessary furniture, etc. Our goal is to get families to a place where they are in safe, sanitary, functioning conditions.

Our second grant in the amount of $192,000 will support 4 case managers for approximately 1 year. These case managers will assist at least 320 households in achieving their recovery. The case managers will help clients navigate FEMA and SBA, identify available resources, and create an achievable recovery plan.

If you are interested in volunteering, please reach out to disasterresponse@awfumc.org.

If you would like to help more families, and you have the ability to give, please send checks to the Alabama-West Florida Conference Office at 4719 Woodmere Blvd, Montgomery, AL 36106, or you may give online at by visiting https://www.awfumc.org/sally and clicking the link under “Donations.” We appreciate everyone who has participated in the Advent Prayer Calendars.

Thank you for supporting disaster response with your prayers and your giving.
