Alabama-West Florida Conference Releases Apportionment Guide to Strengthen Connectional Giving

June 18, 2025

The Alabama-West Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church is pleased to announce the release of a new Apportionment Guide titled, “The Theology Behind Apportionments/Missional Giving.” It is a comprehensive resource designed to assist churches across the conference in understanding and fulfilling their shared missional responsibilities.

This annual guide outlines how connectional giving supports the mission and ministry of the United Methodist Church both locally and globally. From empowering disaster response and supporting new church development to funding mission initiatives and providing resources for clergy and congregations, apportionments are a vital expression of the church's collective faith in action.
“Our apportionments are a tangible way we live out our connection,” said Rev. Angie Long, AWF Treasurer. “Each church, regardless of size, has a part to play in making the ministry of the United Methodist Church vibrant and impactful across our region and around the world. This published document is the beginning of a larger initiative to helping our pastors and churches better understand our shared portion.”

The 2025 Apportionment Guide includes:

  • The theology of apportionment giving
  • The significance of sharing resources
  • A breakdown of each apportionment fund and its impact

Bishop Jonathan Holston emphasized the importance of a deeper understanding of apportionments by saying, “This guide not only explains the numbers, it tells the story of what we can accomplish together. It is a tool to inspire generosity and deepen our understanding of what it means to be a connected church.”

The guide is available now on the conference website at www.awfumc.org/ag.
