Alabama-West Florida Cabinet Announces New District Names and Lines

November 28, 2023

As a result of an annual conference vote at the June 2023 session, the Alabama-West Florida Cabinet is announcing four new district names and lines, effective January 1, 2024. The new names and lines are as follows:

West Central District: formerly Demopolis and Montgomery-Prattville Districts, and now also including all of Montgomery and Choctaw Counties. This district is under the supervision of Dr. Mike Pearson.

Southeast District: formerly the Montgomery-Opelika and Dothan Districts, except for Montgomery County which will be part of the new West Central District. This district is under the supervision of Dr. Jeff Wilson.

Southwest District: formerly the Mobile and Baypines Districts, except for Choctaw County which will be part of the new West Central District. This district is under the supervision of Dr. Debora Bishop.

Panhandle District: formerly the Pensacola and Marianna-Panama City Districts. This district is under the supervision of Rev. Jean Tippit.

The few churches who are moving districts were contacted in November by their District Superintendent. District Conferences will be held in each district toward the end of January to elect new leadership and committees. Kim Doss, based in Mobile, will serve as District Administrator for the Panhandle and Southwest Districts; Charlene Moncrief, based in Montgomery, will serve as District Administrator for the West Central and Southeast Districts.

“We are excited to take this next step to be better stewards of our resources and provide alignment to our districts,” stated Dr. Jeff Wilson, Dean of the Cabinet. “I look forward to the collegial ministry we will share together in the coming years. After reducing the number of District Superintendents in July of 2021, this next step allows us to serve the United Methodist laity, clergy, and churches across our annual conference. My prayer is that we will continue to focus on local churches and their needs to fulfill our shared mission of Making Disciples of Jesus Christ for the Transformation of the World.”

Due to this action, the conference database and Website will undergo extensive updates starting immediately and extending into the new year. Those changes will be completed as soon as possible.
