As many of you have seen in the news, tropical storm Idalia is expected to be upgraded to a hurricane soon. At this time we do not expect this storm to make a significant impact on the Alabama-West Florida Conference. However, our prayers are with those in the Florida Conference and other areas as it comes inland. Hurricanes can also shift before coming ashore so please closely watch this storm. Heavy rain, storm surge and isolated tornadoes can be expected from a significant hurricane like Idalia.
With the Gulf water temperatures at an all-time high, NOW is the time to prepare for other storms as we enter the height of hurricane season.
It is also an appropriate time to review our conference protocol of reporting damage. Should your local church experience damage from any storm, first contact your district disaster response coordinator. They will assist you in assessing the damage and reporting it to your district superintendent and our conference leadership. You may find several other forms and documents helpful to ensure your church is prepared.
Our United Methodist connectional system is often at its best when we come together to help those around us. We will keep you informed of any needs when Idalia has passed. Join us in prayer for those in harm's way.
