Bishop Appoints Wilson to lead Healthy Clergy and Congregations Initiative

August 23, 2023

Bishop David Graves, resident bishop of the Alabama-West Florida Conference, has announced that Rev. Robin Wilson will be appointed to lead the Healthy Clergy and Congregations Initiative.

The conference recently announced four priorities that will serve as the focus in the coming year, one focusing on healthy clergy and congregations. The priorities are:

1.Define a strategy for open itineracy by reclaiming who we are as United Methodists.
2.Implement a program for churches to develop a process of spiritual formation through tools such as Disciple Bible Study.
3. Develop practices for healthy clergy and healthy congregations.
4. Continue to support the AWF New Ministry Strategy team and its work.

“Rev. Wilson is a seasoned pastor in this conference and has a unique gift in the way she relates to our clergy,” said Bishop Graves. “She is well respected throughout our United Methodist connection and deeply understands the need we have to focus on our clergy and congregational health. After a difficult season of disaffiliations, we must turn our attention to healing and supporting those pastors and churches who remained United Methodist. My desire is to equip them, with Robin’s support, with what they need to make disciples in their respective communities.”

Rev. Wilson has effectively led four large membership churches across our annual conference and served as interim pastor for several churches, shepherding those congregations through a season of healing and renewal.

This new position will be a part of the AWF Connectional Ministries team and Rev. Wilson will share her vision for this work to the operations team and cabinet. More updates about the remaining priorities will be published in the coming weeks.

Wilson’s appointment is effective September 1, 2023, and will continue through the remainder of the 2023-2024 appointment year.
