Proposed Changes to the AWF Active and Retiree Health Plans

May 16, 2022

Dear Alabama-West Florida Conference Clergy and Lay Members,

It continues to be the mission of the Conference Board of Pension and Health Benefits to provide quality health care coverage for our clergy and conference lay staff. Because of the continued pressure on health care funding, it has been challenging to achieve health care coverage while making the overall health plan cost effective for the conference churches who fund the plans. Responding to this challenge, the board has made changes to both the active and retiree health plans. The goal of these changes is to make the overall health plan sustainable in the long term as well as provide a savings mechanism for active clergy to prepare for their retiree medical needs.

At the bottom of this email you will find a number of resources that will explain in detail the proposed changes. BeLinda Carnegie and I have prepared a video that walks through the changes. There is also a PowerPoint deck available to accompany the information available from the video. And finally, there is a document that contains some frequently asked questions generated from our focus group discussions on these changes.

Please carefully review the information provided as both clergy and lay members to annual conference will be asked to vote on these design changes during the Conference Board of Pension and Health business session on Tuesday, June 14th, 2022.

If you should have questions prior to annual conference, please do not hesitate to contact BeLinda Carnegie for more information.

Blessings,
Rev. Allison Posell
