DO District Gathering

Rev. Charles Maynard, a well known Storyteller,  will be the guest speaker at the Dothan District Gathering on September 29, 2014.  The gathering will be held at Covenant United Methodist Church.  

Charles Maynard, a native of Signal Mountain, Tennessee, is an ordained United Methodist Minister, a storyteller, and an author.  A graduate of Emory & Henry College in Virginia and the Candler School of Theology at Emory University, Charles has served in the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church for over 30 years.  He has authored or co-authored 30 books and has written United Methodist Sunday school and devotional literature, as well as numerous magazine articles.  

Charles worked as the first executive director of Friends of Great Smoky Mountains National Park and as the director of advancement at the International Storytelling Center in Jonesborough, Tennessee.  He now teaches “Storytelling and Preaching” at the Emmanuel School of Religion.  

After serving seven years as the Director of Development for Holston Conference Camp and Retreat Ministries, he is now serving as the Superintendent of the Maryville District.  

Charles married his high school sweetheart, Janice, who is a well-known novelist.  They have two daughters and four grandchildren.

We will have a meal at 6:00 pm prior to our evening program which begins at 6:45pm.  The meal is optional. Meal reservations are needed and can be made by calling Pat Helman at Covenant UMC at 334-793-4440 or email pat@covenantdothan.org.  Reservations must be made by September 25.  Cost of the meal is $7 per person and should be paid directly to Covenant UMC.
