Ever wonder how our Lord’s message has been spread in the last century here in the South by us Methodists?  How different groups have changed the way we worship the Lord?  Or how we have changed the way we design our church buildings?  Maybe you would like to learn how the Methodist Publishing House came to be in Nashville or what influence Vanderbilt University has had on our Methodist faith.  If you follow country music, then you might enjoy hearing about the Christian witnessing of some of the Grand Ole Opry greats.  If you would be interested in any of these topics plus tours of Mt. Olivet Cemetery and the Upper Room Chapel and Museum in Nashville, then we invite you to plan on attending the Southeastern Jurisdictional Historical Society’s 2012 Annual Meeting being held at the UMW’s Scarritt-Bennett Center in Nashville from Monday July 9 through Thursday, July 12.  The Tennessee Conference Historical Society is hosting the SEJ this year during the Tennessee Conference’s bicentennial year.

We are encouraging anyone interested in Methodist history from your church, especially your church historian, to attend the meeting with a goal of returning to your church to share the information with different groups in your church.  Many churches may wish to pay the registration fee for the person attending as part of their witnessing programs.  After all, Christ’s “Great Commission” has not changed but the way we have implemented it has.  Come and learn about the history of the Methodist movement in the last century here in the South.  You do not have to be a member of the Historical Society to attend.

A brochure and registration form can be accessed through the web site at http://goo.gl/R7EFv, email the Tennessee Conference Historical Society at lkcollier@charter.net or downloaded below.

Registration deadline is April 9, 2012.
