Lay Servant Ministries is a leadership development program in the United Methodist Church focused on educating and empowering people who have responded to the call of God to serve in mission and ministry.

Courses:
BASIC Course
This course is foundational for all courses in Lay Servant Ministries. Participants are encouraged to discover and employ personal spiritual gifts as God intended and to consider the importance of exercising servant leadership, developing future leaders, remaining rooted in consistent spiritual practices, and being part of a group that holds members accountable in their discipleship. This is the first course in the lay servant ministry program.
Living Our United Methodist Beliefs (Heritage)
At the end of this course, participants will be able to articulate an overview of the life and ministry of John Wesley and will gain an awareness of the place of doctrine in the missional movement known as Methodist. This course explores how Methodists got where we are today and how our distintinctive emphases are still needed in the 21st-century church. This would be perfect for lay leaders, church council members or laity who are new to the Methodist denomination. *This is an advanced course and is a required course for the Lay Speaker certification. It also meets the requirements for the renewal of certifications in all of the lay ministry roles.
Ministry with the Forgotten: Dementia Through a Spiritual Lens
This course seeks to equip laity and clergy to serve persons living with dementia and lead ministries that serve those with dementia and Alzheimer's- and the people who care for them. This is a great course especially for lay leaders, clergy, or anyone in care ministries.
*This is an advanced course and will meet the requirement for renewal of certifications in all of the lay ministry roles. Anyone can take this course- it is not limited to those currently in lay servant ministry.
