2008 Annual Conference
The Alabama - West Florida
Annual Conference 2008 was held June 1-4 at
Frazer Memorial UMC in Montgomery, Ala.
Bishop Larry M. Goodpaster recently announced that this Annual Conference will focus on leader development and the building of skills to cultivate dynamic, thriving congregations. Two key components of the four day gathering will be sessions devoted to both teaching and learning. The conference theme of Amazing Love - Great Grace will be lived out in teaching sessions designed to help participants experience the theme and apply it to their daily lives.

March 10: Deadline for submissions to the Brochure of Reports
April 15: Deadline to apply for the Local Church Heritage Award Guidelines and application are available by sending an e-mail request to archives@huntingdon.edu.
May 15: Deadline to have information/materials to be included in delegate packets to Frazer UMC. Please have all items (1,600 quantity) marked "ATTN: 2008 AWF Annual Conference" on the outside of the box(es).

As in 2007, distribution of the Brochure of Reports will be handled by the district offices.
Registration
The Registration Desk will be open during the following times at Annual Conference:
Sunday: 2 p.m. - 6 p.m.
Monday: 7 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Tuesday: 7 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Meals
Meals during Annual Conference are provided at no charge to all Clergy (Active and Retired), Lay Members (Delegates), and Surviving Spouses. Meals for non-members may be purchased at registration.

Special Offering
Following up on the 2007 Annual Conference special offering to Nothing But Nets, this year's offering will go toward the Ganta United Methodist Hospital in Liberia (Africa) for emergency program support. This builds on our "nets" offering last year and expands to include other diseases of poverty that are being addressed through Ganta. The goal will be $60,000 in recognition of the 60th Anniversary of The Advance for Christ and His Church. According to Bishop Goodpaster, $60,000 will provide two years of funding for the hospital, which is the only one available for approximately 300,000 people.

Churches should collect donations toward the special offering in advance, make one check payable to the AWF Conference (marked "AC 2008 Special Offering,"), and present it at Opening Worship.

All worship services will take place in the sanctuary. All business sessions will take place in Wesley Hall. All meals will be served in the fellowship hall.
Service of Ordination
The Service of Ordination will be held Monday, June 2, at 7:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Montgomery. Bishop Morgan will deliver the sermon, "Preach and Teach Your Gospel" - Ephesians 4: 1-16; John 21: 1-14. Live online streaming will be available.

Housing & Transportation
We have reserved a block of dormitory-type rooms at Huntingdon College in Blount Hall. To register for housing at Huntingdon College, please e-mail the Traci at the Conference Office at traci@awfumc.org or call 334.356.8014. Download the Huntingdon College Housing Form . Upon making your reservation for housing at Huntingdon College, you will be told where your paymen should be sent.
Housing registration hours for Huntingdon College will be AT Huntingdon College in Blount Hall and will be on Sunday, June 1, 1 p.m. - 9 p.m. and Monday June 2, 7 a.m. Check out will be Wednesday, June 4, 7 a.m. The rates are as follows:
(1) $25 for a double/per person/per night;
(2) $28 for a single/per person/per night.
No single occupancy rooms for non-members of Annual Conference will be available. If you choose to stay at Huntingdon College, you MUST bring soap and a pillow. No meals will be provided while staying at Huntingdon College. At housing registration you will be given your access card. The charge for unlocking your room is $25, payable on the spot. Any access cards not turned in at checkout will cost $50, payable on the spot.
The deadline to register for housing at Huntingdon College is May 9, 2008.
If you are a District Youth, Young Adult Lay Member (Delegate), or a Page, you MUST contact Rev. Nathan Attwood at 334.356.8014 or nathan@awfumc.org for housing at Huntingdon College by April 4, 2008.
