Alice Lee: An Alabama Treasure

(Huntsville Times) - Click here to read an op-ed about the 100th birthday of Ms. Alice Lee. In the article written by Wayne Flynt, he expresses, "Like other Americans I will mourn on Sept. 11 the tragedy of those who lost their lives that day. But I will also rejoice at what the terrorists could not destroy: an astoundingly talented, deeply Christian, winsome, public, successful, professional woman of gentle spirit and fierce determination who pioneered so many paths that are now the common experience of tens of thousands of Alabama women."

Golden Cross Fund Needs Your Help

As the year progresses and the economy remains uncertain, more and more requests are being sent to the Golden Cross Fund. This fund helps United Methodist lay persons and clergy alike in our conference who have undue or excessive medical expenses and are unable to pay these bills. Golden Cross receives no funds from apportionments and relies solely on designated offerings from local congregations. Please consider making a donation to the Golden Cross Fund of the AWF Conference. For more information, contact Julie Terrell, RN, at 850.478.9489.

Fiscal Year End Approaching

The deadline to have apportionments paid for the Fiscal Year 2011 will be January 9, 2012, 10am. After December 25th, the most recommended method for making apportionment payments will be directly making a deposit at a local Regions Bank into the conference account to ensure payments are made on time. For the account number or questions, contact the Fiscal Office at 888.873.2137. After a deposit has been made, fax a copy of your remittance form with the breakdown of how the funds are to be applied to 334.274.1052. It is not recommended to mail payments close to the deadline.
